To chapter 9 of EN 301 549, which adopts WCAG 2.1 at level AA. Optionally also to WCAG 2.2.

iOS and Android to chapter 11, tested with VoiceOver and TalkBack, switch control and magnification.

PDF and Office files to chapter 10 and PDF/UA. Including large collections, prioritised by usage.
Components and design systems
Individual building blocks such as navigation, forms or dialogs, before they land on every page. Cheaper than any fix afterwards.

How we audit
Define the sample
Representative pages and processes, for example home page, search, form, checkout or login. This keeps the audit affordable and still meaningful.
Test with assistive technology
Keyboard, screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack), magnification at 200 and 400 percent, contrast measurement, code analysis. Automated tools supplement the manual audit.
Rate
Every checkpoint receives a rating according to EN 301 549. You see at a glance what prevents conformance and what is merely cosmetic.
Report and discuss
You receive the report as an accessible PDF and go through the results with us. Afterwards developers and editors know what to do first.
Standards we audit against
EN 301 549
The European standard for the accessibility of ICT products and services. It underpins BITV 2.0 and the regulation implementing the German Accessibility Strengthening Act. For web content it adopts WCAG 2.1 at level AA.
BITV 2.0
The German federal ordinance on accessible information technology binds federal public bodies; the states have their own, largely identical rules. Besides accessible services it requires an accessibility statement with a feedback option.
WCAG 2.1 and 2.2
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines are the international standard. We audit to 2.1 AA because the European standard references it, and we point out what you additionally need for 2.2.
Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG)
Since June 2025 the BFSG sets requirements for businesses that offer certain consumer products and services in Germany. The technical requirements are the same as in EN 301 549.
Frequently asked questions
Is an automated test enough?
No. Automated tools reliably detect roughly a third of the requirements, such as missing alternative text or insufficient contrast. Whether a page can be operated with a keyboard, whether error messages are understandable or whether the reading order makes sense can only be judged by a person. We use tools as a supplement, not a substitute.
How long does an audit take?
It depends on the sample. For a website with eight to twelve representative pages and two processes we usually deliver the report within two to three weeks of the order. The date is stated in the proposal.
Does the German Accessibility Strengthening Act apply to us?
The BFSG has applied since 28 June 2025 to certain consumer products and services, including e-commerce, banking, telecommunications, passenger transport and e-books. Micro-enterprises are exempt for services. We clarify in the first conversation whether and to what extent you are affected; this does not replace legal advice.
